The investigation was launched at approximately midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when officers and firefighters responded to the area of Brock Bridge Road and Tribeca Lane in Laurel for reports of a car that was on fire approximately 100 yards off the roadway in a nearby field.

Once the flames were knocked down, charred human remains - ultimately identified as Knight - were located in the backseat of the vehicle, which were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, which determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound.
